Running in Zion National Park

For me, running and whisky are both about the experience and community. Running a trail and or sampling a local whisky is a fantastic way to learn about the area and its people. Be it chatting with the locals while running along a loch in Scotland in the pouring rain, or trying a unique whisky in Arizona that uses mesquite wood to achieve a smoky flavor. Both activities allow you to experience the sense of that place while having a fun adventure. By sharing my own experiences and knowledge on this blog, I hope to inspire others to try something new on the trails or in the glass.

I’ve been a runner my whole life, but in 2010 I finished my first half marathon, and it started a trend for me to seek longer and longer distances just to see if I could do it. Now I run road half marathons all the way up to trail 100 milers and everything in between. (Race history can be found here).

Coincidentally, I made the switch from road running to trail running the same year I began drinking whisky – 2014. Since then I’ve tasted over 400 separate whiskies and gone on many distillery tours, including some fantastic ones in Scotland. (Read about part 1 and part 2 from 2016.)

I also work for Wanderback Whiskey as the Rackhouse Supervisor and Virtual Brand Ambassador. I love that I get to help make a unique American single malt whiskey, and share it with others.

Curious about more? How about some bullet points:

  • I grew up in Wisconsin, and have previously lived in Minnesota, Colorado, and Scotland. I currently live in Washington.
  • I’m married to a wonderful man, Adam, who is also from Wisconsin. And I’ve roped him into sometimes running crazy distances too.
  • We have two cats. They’re cute. And also high-maintenance. Good thing they’re cute.
  • I love running. And whisky. Hence this blog.   🙂
  • Welcome!

That definitely looks like my kind of race! I loved visiting the area in 2016, and it would be a fun addition to another trip. I’ll add it to my bucket list, for sure. Any excuse to sip on lovely drams in Scotland is welcome!
