A Little Weekend Whisky
What better way to finish off a long weekend than with tasting a few whiskies? A certain someone wanted to help.
This time Adam insisted we try them “blindly” without looking up the tasting notes ahead of time. We disagreed a bit with Master of Malt on our notes for the first one, but the next two were similar enough that I felt some confidence in our tasting abilities.
Glenfarclas 15 Yr Old
Single Malt Scotch (Speyside) 46% ABV
Nose: Bright, fruity (tropical?), fresh light fruits (pineapple)
Palate: Bit hot, citrus, bread, not as sweet as I’d expect. Not a long finish.
Notes: Not very dynamic, water helped the burn. Reminds me of a dry white wine.
Oban 14 Yr Old
Single Malt Scotch (Highland) 43% ABV
Nose: Rich, bit medicinal, plum, dark berries, tiny hint of smoke
Palate: Warming, nothing really stands out, but classic. Buttery, orange peel, brown sugar. Hint of smoke. Good mouthfeel, says Adam.
Notes: Decent finish. Balanced.
Knockando 12 Yr Old
Single Malt Scotch (Speyside) 43% ABV
Nose: Medicinal, coastal, pine, dark sugary
Palate: Minty, bit more burn than I’d like, ginger, grain.
Notes: Nothing really remarkable, but nothing offensive.
They were all fine whiskies – very drinkable, and nothing offensive about any of them. However, they were all fairly one-note and none of them truly compelling. But always fun to do a little tasting!
